Dumbarton District Women's Aid
Dumbarton District Women’s Aid (DDWA) aims to provide a range of quality support services to women, children and young people (WC&YP) who are/have previously experienced domestic abuse (DA), primarily offering emotional and practical support underpinned by a gendered analysis of DA. We aim to provide a holistic and therapeutic support service to service users. We also aim to provide an understanding of the effects of DA and the links between gender based violence and gender inequality and factors that increase vulnerability.
We provide refuge space, offering WC&YP a safe environment for recovery at an individual’s pace, free from control and abuse; advocacy; information and support using a counselling approach to assist and enable WC&YP to make informed and empowered choices; follow-on when moving on from refuge; outreach support for WC&YP who do not require refuge.
